Low-interest financing for small and medium-scale renewable energy projects is going to be critical if Oregon's developing Feed-In Tariff is to bring reasonably priced community based clean energy generation to cities, towns and neighborhoods around our state. Could an Oregon state bank provide the answer? Come find out at an upcoming forum near you.

Oregonians for Renewable Energy Policy is pleased to co-sponsor the February 1st Portland area "Community Forum About the Oregon State Bank" from 5:30-8:00 PM at New Song Church, 2511 NE Martin Luther King Blvd (at MLK and Russell).

Forums will also be held in Medford, Salem and Eugene in the coming weeks. For those locations visit: www.OregoniansForaStateBank.org.

Why a State Bank?

Investing in Oregon, not Wall Street

Right now the State of Oregon deposits billions of our tax dollars into the same "Too Big To Fail" banks that crashed our economy. Oregonians for a State Bank believes that we should bring that money home, and invest it into creating jobs here.

History of this effort:

Over a year ago 800 Oregonians gathered to discuss the unfolding economic crisis and to strategize around creating local solutions. One idea that emerged from that gathering was to create the Oregon State Bank, modeled after the highly successful Bank of North Dakota. Since then, a grassroots coalition of organizations has formed called Oregonians for a State Bank.

2011 Legislative Campaign:

Oregonians for a State Bank is uniting farmers, small business owners, community bankers, and working Oregonians who believe it is time we take our economy back. The Oregon legislature will consider a bill this year to cut our dependency on Wall Street by creating the Oregon State Bank. They are pioneering this effort, but now at least a dozen other states around the country are following that lead.
